"Utility Pole with Mountains"

Oil on 1/8" Gessoboard. Approx 6"x6" SOLD

A couple of weeks ago we went to the smokey mountains. I took a bunch of photos and I started painting the good ones. This is the first.

Great painting, Michael! Like the abstract quality of it very much.

Friend, your gutsy, directional stroke is inspiring.

Hi Michael,
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog. Your paintings are so good!
You have really mastered your stuff.
Especially I love your still life with simple, ordinary items in it.
I'll be following your paintings.

Mike!

This one is very painterly, loose, and almost impressionistic.

I've seen you do a painting of power lines before.

Is there a reason for this? Just wondering why you picked this subject matter to paint.

Maybe it's because of all the interesting lines they create?

Just curious.

Superb handling of muted colours and abstract shapes here.

I imagined a pirate ship here (crow's nest) out on the high seas
